Is it normal to watch porn?

I was speaking to a new client yesterday.

We were talking about junkie thoughts (excuses / rationalisations) which have led to him watching porn in the past.

He said one junkie thought he has had has been "it's normal, everyone does it".

Watching porn has become normal.

But, just because something is normal, doesn't mean it is okay with you.

Are you okay with looking at sexual content that repels you the moment you are finished?

Are you okay with trying to restrict yourself from doing something because you don't trust yourself?

Are you okay wasting time?

Are you okay enjoying your life less?

Are you okay feeling shame?

Are you okay doing something you told yourself you wouldn't do?

I don't care what is normal. I care about making choices that are okay with me.

The addicted part of the mind (APOTM) will try to use junkie thoughts like "it's normal" against you.

I got bullied by the addicted part of my mind for 9 years. Until meeting my mentor, Mari Paulus, I hadn't been taught how to deal with it correctly.

What I learned is that either we take control, or the addicted part of the mind remains in control.
